Health, Safety & Inclusion
At Melos, our people come first. Our certified occupational health and safety management system, compliant with ISO 45001, ensures a safe and healthy working environment for all employees.
- In cooperation with Diakonie, our employees have access to professional, confidential psychological counseling.
- We aim to provide 16 hours of Health & Safety training per employee annually to enhance awareness and reduce risks.
- Our regularly organized Sports Days promote physical well-being, motivation, and team spirit.
- German language courses are offered to international seasonal workers to support integration and communication.
- A clear procedural guideline defines responsibilities and documents the appropriate response in case of health and safety issues.
- Our comprehensive safety management system includes regular training and instructions for all employees.
Environment, Energy & Resource Use
Energy Efficiency & Climate Action
As of January 1, 2024, Melos has fully switched to renewable energy sources for its operations. Already in 2023, over 60% of our energy came from green sources. We also actively request Product Carbon Footprint certifications from our suppliers to assess emissions and pursue reduction targets.
Waste & Material Management
Resource efficiency is embedded in our production processes:
- Production waste such as blending errors is reviewed regularly and reused where possible—for example, products with minor color deviations are repurposed for less sensitive applications.
- By reintroducing residual materials like rubber dust into the production cycle, we maintain a very low waste rate of only 1–3%.
- Handling of hazardous materials is governed by a detailed internal directive that ensures safe processes and clear communication across all production stages.
Water & Soil Protection
Melos operates a pump-and-treat system that filters groundwater, allowing safe discharge into the municipal sewage system. This groundwater remediation will continue until the affected soil is fully decontaminated.

Eco-Design Philosophy
As part of the Sport Group, Melos is committed to creating products that combine high performance with environmental responsibility. Our eco-design program includes:
- Increased use of recycled and renewable materials, developed by our dedicated R&D teams.
- Designing with recyclability in mind to support closed-loop product lifecycles.
- Development of biodegradable materials to reduce environmental impact.
- Implementation of mono-material solutions to allow for easier separation and reuse of pure raw materials.
Leading Product Innovations
- Poligras Paris GT zero: The world’s first CO₂-neutral hockey turf, used at the 2024 Olympic Games, made from 80% sugarcane and produced in a 100% climate-neutral process.
- Dry-Turf: Developed with the FIH, this is the first hockey surface that requires no irrigation, pushing water-saving innovation forward.
- LigaTurf Cross GTzero: Certified CO₂-neutral and supported by comprehensive life cycle assessments to ensure environmental performance.
- FormaTurf, the Sport Group’s recycling division, processes all components of artificial turf systems—through material separation, shredding, and extrusion—into new, usable products.
