The newly modernized running track at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens has officially been inaugurated. Together with our partner ErgoMass, we contributed to a project that combines one of the world's most historic sporting venues with state-of-the-art athletics infrastructure. At the heart of the modernization is a new Polytan running track featuring Melos Premium EPDM Granules.
Known as Kallimarmaro, meaning "beautiful marble," the Panathenaic Stadium is one of the most iconic sports venues in the world. Built more than 2,300 years ago and host of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, it remains a symbol of the connection between history, culture, and elite sport.
The official opening ceremony marked the completion of an extensive modernization program designed to bring the venue up to current international competition standards. As part of the project, the existing track was replaced with a modern Rekortan M track system, creating the conditions required to host international athletics events at the highest level.
The new track also makes a distinctive visual statement. Its striking Hertha Blue surface contrasts beautifully with the stadium's historic marble surroundings, creating a unique combination of contemporary design and timeless architecture.
The track installation formed part of a broader renovation effort that included upgrades to the stadium's infield, the cleaning of the historic marble stands, and the installation of a new lighting system. The result is a facility that respects its remarkable heritage while meeting the demands of modern athletics.
For us, this project is far more than another reference. It is an opportunity to contribute to a venue that has played a unique role in the history of the Olympic Movement. We are proud that athletes from around the world will now compete on a Polytan running track featuring Melos Premium EPDM Granules at one of the most historic sites in international sport.
